I’ve never been the most flexible person – except backbends that’s always come naturally to me. After years of occasional yoga I still can’t touch the floor with the palms of my hands… But that doesn’t stop me from loving the practice!
Stretching is fun, because if I practice it regularly I can see progress and improvements just about every time I go on the mat. But the reason I turn to it as often as I’ve done lately, is because it helps me release emotions.
Weird? A little bit. But I truly believe in the saying that we store issues in our tissues. That anxiety, stress, grief, and so on is energy that can be stored in our bodies, and released with things like stretching.
What’s easier for most people to agree with is the fact that yin-yoga, or stretching, calms down our body and can ease different kind of physical ailments. Our breath, used consciously, soothes the nervous system and makes it easier for us to relax and see things differently.
Lately I’ve had a lot of emotions like fear and sadness, and “I’m not good enough bullshit” in my head. When I do an hour of stretching I’ve experienced that I release those emotions, and feel calm for hours after the session.
I turn to Ellefit’s Get Bendy for the stretching flow, and my own Spotify list to go with it. I thought I’d share my playlist with you today, in case you wanted some new tunes for your next me-time. You can find it and subscribe here. I update it whenever I find something new, so stay tuned for more tuuunes.
